About the Masters Golf Tournament
from:Champions - That word runs rampant throughout the Masters Golf Tournament. It is the champions that are whispered about on the golf course. It is the champions that the sports announcer speaks about so eloquently on the television. It is the champions that everyone comes to see.
Every year, golf players around the world work diligently to make it to the Masters Golf Tournament. As the most prominent tournament in the world, the Masters Golf Tournament attracts the world’s most highly acclaimed golf champions. Champions like these have to be invited to participate in the tournament. There are seventeen different ways to qualify for the Masters Golf Tournament, including Lifetime Masters Tournament Champions and Honorary US Open Champions. Most of the other qualifications have to do with ranking within the golf tournament arena.
Every golf player that comes to the Masters Golf Tournament is truly a champion. Since the tournament started in 1934 by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts, the Masters Golf Tournament has been one of the most prestigious golf games in the world with the most highly ranked players participating. This year, the tournament will be held April 2 - 8, during the first week of April as it always is. The leading contender is Phil Mickelson. Mickelson, a true champion, has won the Masters Golf Tournament twice in his golf career—in 2004 and 2006. This year he leads the pack of golfers with a 7 below par score from the 2006 Masters Golf Tournament.
Winning the tournament means winning the gold. The Masters Golf Tournament prides itself with presenting one of the most esteemed medals to its winners. A 2.3 ounce gold medal is presented to the winner each year. The medal, featuring a picture of the Founders Circle in front of the famous Founders Clubhouse, is what marks the true champion and honors him for his exuberant showmanship of golf. The winner also receives the Masters Golf Tournament sterling silver replica of the trophy featuring the historic Founders Clubhouse and a green Masters jacket to make him stand out as the ultimate champion.
But winning isn’t everything at the Masters Golf Tournament. Players take pride in their game and the fun is not only in the winning, but how the game is played. It’s about the camaraderie and competitiveness during the game. It’s about how each player has his own golf style and personality that makes the Masters Golf Tournament truly celebrated. It’s in the celebration of the game that each player takes pride in his tournament play.
